Careers with Vogue Arabia

VOGUE_ARABIA_logo2

For nearly 125 years, Vogue has been the defining voice at the center of the fashion and cultural universe, with unrivaled reach and influence across the globe. Vogue is a synonym for fashion consciousness — for style, joie de vivre, and indulgence. Founded in 1892, Vogue has set the international benchmark by which editorial quality and imaginative publishing are measured.

This past October, Condé Nast International and Nervora launched Vogue Arabia digitally, bringing the world’s preeminent fashion publication to the Arab world and marking the first time in Vogue’s storied history that it has launched as a digital-first publication. The print edition will follow in 2017, and both editions will empower Vogue Arabia’s influential audience to experience a tradition of narrative-focused editorial and visually arresting imagery in new and richer ways. As founding Editor-In-Chief Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz describes it, “Vogue Arabia will be a love letter” to the region.

Positions:

The Role

Social Media Manager, Vogue Arabia

Location

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

About the Role

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for creating and curating the image and voice of Vogue Arabia in both English and Arabic across multiple platforms while also giving Vogue Arabia’s audiences the most compelling Vogue experience possible. It’s an integral position that will challenge even the most seasoned social media enthusiasts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Integrating Social Media into the DNA of Vogue Arabia: Collaboratively weave social media as a discipline throughout every organisational process. The Social Media Manager will need to develop a cadence and rhythms within the entire Vogue Arabia team that proactively guides each team member to address the continuously evolving demands of each social media platform.
  • Goal Setting & Analytical Feedback: Develop channel specific goals focused on the growth and engagement of Vogue Arabia’s audiences that have well-defined metrics that are rigorously and regularly monitored, measured, and reported to the team.
  • Content Development, Curation, and Packaging: Select and create Vogue quality content to be published across each social media platform that represents and enhances the Vogue Arabia brand, has a strong visual identity matching Vogue’s, and is tailored for optimal performance for each platform. Content creation includes writing effective on-brand copy, editing media assets, and producing creative, platform specific content. It also includes content specific for Arabic channels, copy written in Arabic, and is in tune to the cultural sensitivities of the region.
  • Set the Publication Schedule: Create and manage a forward looking publication schedule that enables internal team alignment and organises and sequences the appropriate activities.
  • Trend Assessment: Spot, assess, and report social media and platform specific trends to the editorial team and leverage those insights in content development and curation.
  • Community Management: Engage with the Vogue Arabia’s audiences, industry luminaries, and other prominent personalities (online and offline) to create meaningful connections to the brand.

The Right Candidate (About You):

The launch of Vogue in the Arab world is historic both because of its introduction to the region and because of its initial digital focus. This is a rare and special opportunity to be a part of a launch, dig into the inner workings of Vogue, and get a front-row seat at one of the most critical points in Vogue Arabia’s journey. It’s also an opportunity to be a transformative player in building an iconic digital presence and extending Vogue’s unique role as a cultural barometer. Given the gravity of this launch, we’re setting the bar high and demanding a lot of potential candidates. The right candidates should have the experience, skills, and qualifications below.

  • You’re bilingual. Vogue Arabia will be published in both English and Arabic, with a social media presence that reflects that breakdown. You must be capable of managing Vogue Arabia’s platforms across both languages.
  • You’ve got a proven track record. We’re looking for a Social Media Manager that has a proven track record and a deep bench of experience building a sizeable social media presence and engaging social media content that is backed with a portfolio of work and concrete performance numbers. Loving fashion and Vogue isn’t enough. We are measuring candidates by how they’ve transformed their love for fashion, storytelling, or social media from sentiment into real, consumable work products. Serious candidates should have multiple years of experience. You should also have demonstrable experience in understanding the cultural nuances of the Arab world and in the various countries that are part of it.
  • You’re a passionate and polished storyteller. We’re looking for someone who is passionate about storytelling and whose passion manifests itself in great copywriting, impeccable grammar, and a sharp visual sense. You should care deeply not only about the fundamentals of storytelling but also actively seek out new modalities with which to tell a story. To tell a great story, you also have to be a great communicator that can take complex or abstract ideas and translate them into simple and powerful content.
  • You’re technologically savvy. You should be well versed in all major social media platforms with a keen understanding of each platforms requirements, constraints, and effectiveness. Staying on top of new platform capabilities is a must, but you should also have skills that allow you to produce content like Adobe Creative Cloud applications.
  • You’re cerebral and analytical. While social media is partly an art, you’re an avid proponent of building structure to constantly measure, test, and identify what elements contribute to effective social media while staying on-brand. You let data guide you but not overrun you, and you have an acute comprehension and strong background in social media analytics and content performance.
  • You’re a self-starter. Because this is a launch and akin to a startup, there won’t be inherited corporate infrastructure, a team of subordinates, or large budgets so we’re looking for someone who can take the initiative without needing direction.  The role requires a lot of grit, gumption, and a relentlessly resourceful attitude to source and create content and proactively build a framework for operational excellence. You should be highly organised, disciplined, and love rolling up your sleeves.
